Ubuntu 18.10, Gnome-shell, Wayland, Display scaling is set to 1.25.

Most text looks great. But the text in the "top bar" is horrendous. In the pic below, the text "Sat Nov 24 18:09" is in the top bar, the text "Displays" is in a window.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Is the shell theme 3rd party or default ?

Default.

FYI I also tried a few different fonts in the top bar via a custom .css file in my ~/.themes directory. That didn't help.

I also turned off scaling, and changed display resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600 x 900. Roughly 1.4x rather than 1.25x, and the font in the top bar is so much better. I'd prefer 1.2-1.3 scaling, but I'll stick with a lower resolution if that's the only fix.
