Recommended actions following new install

Have just installed Ubuntu MATE 18.04.1. From time to time, I see articles with a list of "T0-Do's" immediately following a new install, but of course they are lost to memory by the time the install happens.

Does anyone have a link to something like this?

I suggest you forget about doing what other people tell you that you should and for now at least, wait until you need to do something that you find you can't, then come back and ask. This will, of course, depend on what you want to do with your system.

Some of the info I've seen in the past of the type you mention suggests adding a lot of totally unnecessary packages for most users, eg the page at https://linuxconfig.org/things-to-do-after-installing-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux which will add a lot of what I would call dross, and even after 13 years of exclusively using Ubuntu, I have never needed, installed or used some of that long list.

Just make sure you keep the OS fully updated, install a graphics driver if needed by your card, add the appropriate *ubuntu-restricted-extras package and see what else you need from there once you start using the OS; you'll soon find out if anything is missing!

But I agree with ajgreeny, after years of use I may only do one or two of the things they are suggesting.

But the one thing you must do, is create a regular procedure for backups.
