I have an old p1 and had the not very original idea of putting a couple of network adapters into it and using it as a router for the minimal network I have at home. It should run on Linux, naturally and perhaps boot from cd.
Any ideas what distro what be good? I know there are some specifically put together for this kind of thing, but could use some tips.

Good points would be if it was configurable from another computer and didn't need a monitor itself. There will be both Windows XP and Linux computers on the network, possible a playstation 2 as well. And a printer.

And setting it all up wouldn't require me to have to think too much :-) Ok, that was a joke, but an easy way of configuring it would be great.

Thanks everyone. None of these seem to be exactly what I want, but that is probably because I don't know much about these things in the first place.

what I was looking for is this.

Computer 1 sits behind my cable modem and protects the two others and helps them talk to each other.

Computer 2 is Windows XP and has a usb printer attached

Computer 3 runs Dapper.

2 and 3 are not connected to each other, but (will be) to 1 and I was hoping they could share some folders and the printer.

I don't have a switch so computers 2 and 3 will be connected directly to 1.

Is this doable?

I've installed ipcop and it connects fine to the internet but not to the two other computers (same type of NIC), do I need a crossover cable for that?

:-) Or I could just get a cheap switch. I didn't realise they were that cheap as I've never been interested in a lan before. A 5 or 8 port d-link, for example, would be more than enough for my simple needs. If I have IPcop between the cable modem and the switch, then it would be fairly easy to set up printer and filesharing or?
