I just made this background about 10 minutes ago and wiped it up within 30. I call it "Do You Ubuntu?" Simple background for anyone with Ubuntu and running at max of 1024x768. Here is the link:

Let me know what you think. I think it's...OK...but not great. I can do better, but let me know what you think.

Thanks. Same here. I like it since the message is true:

"Life is much better OpenSource"

I'll be making more as the days/weeks go by.

Well, I tried out Xubuntu Desktop last night as was happy with the fact that it was very lightweight, but not too happy that you can't add launchers onto the desktop from the Main Menu. Still, I like Xubuntu and it likes be. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f88/djdarkx/grin_ani.gif

Anyway, here is a dekstop for Xubuntu lovers, haters and anything it entails:

Let me know what you guys think of this one. Again, another 1024x768 for small monitor setups.

The "Do You Ubuntu" is nice, although there is too much text.

The Xubuntu one is awesome...keep it up, mate!

MAXDDARK, I used Photoshop on my Windows PC and placed them in a shared folder in which I transfered to Linux via Linux. I didn't have Samba up at the time.

Lord Illidan, you're right about the first one. I'll trim it down a bit and represent it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll be making backgrounds for Kubuntu and Edubuntu as well. Keep a sharp eye out.

Hey all,

I'm back with a new background. It's very plain and it pretty much sucks, but for any that want it, you can have it.

As you can see, the image contains my avy. Well, he was made by me. I didn't even really follow the tutorial on CrystalXP.net. I decided to opt for my own style and I will improve on it.

Anyway, catch you all laterz.

Here's another image by me. It shows off the forum section of Ubuntu Art. This image is 1400x1050 instead of 1024x768. Feel free to leave feedback!

I think there is some really nice graphics here... just one thing immediately jumped to my eyes... there's a bit too much beveling going on. IMHO one thing that immediately turns a well designed graphic into somethig that just looks unprofessional is bevels on type (and filters generally). the problem is, bevels is one of the things (like the plastic bag filter in photoshop) you always use when you're beginning to get aquainted with PS... so when I see it it always gives me this effect...
and apart from this, I think type looks so much better without any 3D fx on it!

Hmm, good point. I'll edit it and repost it...and I still need to repost my original "Do You Ubuntu?" image with less text.

Jesse~

EDIT
Okay, I edited both images. Let me know if they are better! Thanks again for the feedback!

Hey nice wallpapers! Do you think you could post a link to where you found the original picture of the grass and blue sky in your first image? I really like that picture

I got it from a site that offers free stock images. Here's the main site:

In order to download any images, you need to register, but it's free, so that's what I did. Here's the actual image (I hope you have broadband):

HanZo, don't be silly. I like this kind of feedback. Gets me to make better work. Also, I thought that too, but it was a bit of a rush job. When I have a little more time, I'll improve on it. Again, thanks for the feedback. It really does help out.

glad to hear that! I think too that these kind of comments help to improve the final work... that's why I make them! nontheless my experience shows that some people are not used to it and may feel attacked so I'm always very cautios.

I really do appreciate the feedback, as you can plainly tell.

In fact, here's a message to all those that receive feedback and feel attacked:

Quite being so freaking sensitive!

Art work and feedback are a perfect pair! If feedback is not given, then nothing can ever be improved, if chosen to be presented to the public. If you want to make some fabulous works, not just art, and you take all feedback with a grain of salt, you will improve on your work vastly!

I should know this about my ADX Frontend for Windows. Some didn't like it due to it missing features, but because of the feedback given, I am working on adding those features.

Anyone else care to share their thoughts?

I've been looking for a good background picture for my Ubuntu desktop for a long time, but now i use you're "Do You Ubuntu?" image. I really think it is one of the best out there, and i've fallen in love with the line "Life is much better OpenSource"! I think it perfectly describes what people see in Ubuntu!!!

Just some feedback for the "Do You Ubuntu" picture; i think that the "Life is much better OpenSource" is a bit big and could look better a bit smaller. Also i think it may look better if you don't use a capital letter for the word "Life"
These are just my personal opinions.

Otherwise great job with the wallpaper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT

I've downloaded tonnes of other wallpapers recently, but your's is still my favourite!

I like it...I just dislike the white background

I tried it first with Black then Dark Blue background but just didnt look right, the White makes your icons stand out more ;)
