VPN indicator not showing

When I connect to a VPN, Network Manager icon does not change at all and it only happens if network is connected through wired connection.

This is what I see when I connect to a VPN:

I had this problem in Xubuntu 16.04 and I still have it after upgrade to 18.04.

I have this behavior too on Xubuntu 16.04.

I solved this by installing xubuntu-artwork package from this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
