I've been having a problem with my session dying: describe in this thread:

This problem did not exist with 16.04.x

I do use ubuntu packaged zfs.

Is there an easy way to downgrade the kernel without reinstalling 16.04 ?

just download .deb files 32 bit or 64 bit for your system.

I use ZFS and I'm worried I'll run into conflicts if i go that route.

I ended up fixing the issue by getting a cheap amd gpu. Seems kind of pia that to have this regression after 4+ years but whatever.
