View Full Version : [ubuntu] Prevent application restart on failure

Hi

I have found that there are times where the automatic restarting of desktop applications following a crash can be undesirable. Can this be turned off? Or perhaps manually controlled?

The big one for me is when setting up mythtv you can get into a situation where the backend is (for whatever reason) not available yet the frontend will keep trying to connect to it (mostly during initial setups, but also when fixing stuff / problem solving).

The only way to get it to stop is to kill it off, or wait until the timeout to choose to exit, unfortunately Ubuntu interprets both of these events (even using the “exit” button!) as a program crash and “helpfully” restarts the frontend only for this to all repeat.
Only real way out is to bounce the window manger / restart…

Can this be controlled?

Many thanks

Rob
