Black background for title bar and dock when maximized

Just upgraded from 16.04 to 18.08.1 and getting to grips with Gnome. I've used Tweak to set theme to Adwaita, and added Nextik to shell.

When a window is maximised, or positioned at top left of desktop, the bar and dock turn black. Is there a way to change this so it stays with the theme?

I know I'm the only human being who doesn't like white text on black background ....

Install the gnome-shell extension Dynamic panel transparency. I unchecked 'Transition when windows touch the panel' and set Transition Speed to 0ms.

That is a feature of the shell settings . The extension above should do the trick.
