I have a HP Elitedesk 800 on which I was able to install Ubuntu 18.04 successfully. A month later a request was made to downgrade and install 14.04 on the same hardware.

Unfortunately the display goes dead right after the Ubuntu splash screen with 5 dots during the process of installation. For installing 14.04, i have tried both CDROM and USB stick. So I pulled out the hard disk and connected to an other Dell machine and here I was able to erase the old OS and install the new OS on the disk.

I unplugged the hard disk with the installed OS and plugged it back into the HP, fire it up and it ends with the same issue of dead display right after the initial Ubuntu purple background.

I am guessing the 14.04 package doesnt support some newer display driver. As I investigate the hardware details on this box, is there anything that comes to the mind right away?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

What do you mean a request was made?
