Error message from Software Updater

My internet connection is just fine

I'm just not a user of the software updater.
It may help to see the real error (If any) with:

sudo apt update

The whole message would have been better, but we will do it the hard way then.
Check your source list for bad repos or PPA's:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
Try changing the Server from which updates come from, I use the Main server.
Are you using a Proxy? In my experience, there are at least three other causes of the failure: incorrect repository location, repository is down, and incorrect proxy settings.

I don't know how I got "bionic updates" How do I fix this?

I'm very confused now >> have you upgraded to Bionic and forgotten?
What dose this show:

lsb_release -a

Just to be clear Bionic is 18.04 LTS
Also we need to see the whole output from:

I fixed it. The problem was that I, based on some advice from one of those "20 things to do" blogs, activated and checked off "independent" under "other software". Apparently that caused the error message. As soon as I unselected it the problem went away. Of course I know that I have Bionic. In fact I have loaded it twice. The last time to fix problems caused by a recent update.
