View Full Version : [ubuntu_studio] I only have a default 640 x 480 display once loaded on hard drive

I have tried Beaver, and Studio versions of Ubuntu with the same result: Using the site derived .iso file on a DVD i get the choice of three display resolutions, natively 1024 x 768. However when I load the programme to the hard drive all I get is the "default" 640x480 @ 73.0hz. In the DVD mode I have the following resolution data:- "1024x768_61.00" 65.26 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 -HSync + VSync
Once running from hard drive I cannot access this or make any changes. I would like to be able to use Ubunto, but the default resolution is useless, and happens whether, during installation updates are loaded or not.
Why can the DVDs work, but the same programme installed does not. Is it possible to SIMPLY make the installed version see the hardware that the DVD version does? Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 771/671 PCIE VGA display adapter on this machine.
I am a complete newbie to Linux after years of Windows, so please be kind :-)

Hi, welcome to the fora.

Cards from SIS have always been difficult to work with. Here is some advice for 16.04:

I don't know if it works for 18.04, though.
