format of themes to add

been a long while since i used gnome. if i want to add themes - what themes format should i look for 100% compatibilty? gtk???? or whatever or something else? thank you.

You would be using GTK 3 . Most of the newer GTK 3 themes from here (https://www.gnome-look.org/browse/cat/135/ord/latest/) will work. The GTK version can be found in settings > details.
