on HP pavilion media centre m8175a PC which had had flat battery, faulty ram, and been unused for some time.When installation disc is inserted and the installation starts a full screen of repeated line shows for a brief time saying "cache error" then carries on installing usually without any pauses for input of language, location, and other variables. Some occasions it will show a language selection screen. Installation presumably concludes and a green with grey lower border screen appears, this is the only indication other than the DVD drive working that anything has taken place. pressing control, alt, delete brings up a terminal screen saying,"Ubuntu 18.4 LTS Ubuntu tty2" second line "Ubuntu login"

2 x 1g DDR2
Windows vista
when starting vista get windows error recovery.
on choosing start normally goes to black screen
On selecting launch startup repair screen goes black then error recovery comes back
