I loved the global menu that unity did the one thing i miss. Would there be away to do this in 18.04?
I heard there was a gnome extensions for doing that but it was not working for 18.04.

I tried unite but it messes up other thing (at least a few months ago when Ubuntu was beta), your mileage may differ.

But it is easy to get the real deal, install unity.

sudo apt install ubuntu-unity-desktop

when asked, pick lightdm as default

If use touchpad,

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then reboot, login to unity,

There is a Gnome Shell extension to add a global menu and now it works with Ubuntu 18.04 too, see here how to install it: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/05/how-to-add-global-menu-and-hud-to-gnome.html
