Waiting for 18.04

I'm not impatient, just curious. I have 16.04 on a homebuilt AMD machine and Software Updater is set to get LTS releases. The new version is out now but it has not notified me to upgrade. Isn't that what it is supposed to do? Or am I just supposed to do "apt-get upgrade"?

It'll be a couple of months before it's offered to you automatically apparently.

Not sure apt-get upgrade would be enough, maybe apt-get dist-upgrade, or someone else will be along to give definitive answer.

I wouldn't rely on this strategy however. I had issues with the upgrade and ended up flattening and installing 18.04 fresh. Back-up either way...

You will be notified with the next point release of 18.04 that will come out some time in July. Then you can upgrade.

If you want to upgrade now, use the update manager.
