I have not been prompted to upgrade to 18.04. I've checked the updater settings, & it's set to notify me of upgrades. What's going on? I'm currently using 17.10.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the notifier will not immediately tell you that there is a new release. I believe that it waits for a few months until the first major kernel update is released.

I've always been prompted to upgrade on time, so I don't believe that to be the case. That's why I'm confused this time around, since I wasn't prompted as usual.

For upgrades 16.04→18.04 you will be prompted in about 3 months. For 17.10→18.04 you will be prompted sooner, but it may take a few days. I haven't seen a prompt either. I'll wait another month anyway.

If you wanna have it now go that route: do-release-upgrade (http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bionic/man8/do-release-upgrade.8.html)

Well, if it only takes a few days, I'll wait. Otherwise, I'll just download it....

There are reasons, why you are not prompted to upgrade now.

- The upgrade process is rather complicated and needs more testing.

- The brand new version of Ubuntu is only tested by a few persons in a few computers. During the next few months bugs will be found and squashed, and the upgrade process is more likely to succeed.

I just found out from Dennis N on a chat forum that (at least Xubuntu) you will not have the option to upgrade existing Xubuntu until 18.04.1 is released in late July.

It right in the release notes: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseNotes

Upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or 17.10
Upgrades from 17.10 will not be enabled until a few days after 18.04's release. Upgrades from 16.04 LTS will not be enabled until a few days after the 18.04.1 release expected in late July.

Thanx, I didn't see that. I'll keep watching for the upgrade notification.
