Hello All,

I have two computers, both on Ubuntu Studio version 16.04. I bought a Brother MFC-9340CDW printer and used the brother site to download the installer on my computer. This was version 2.1.1-1. It worked on my machine, but not my wife's. However, we discovered that my wife could select the driver on my machine through the network. The problem with this is that my machine had to be turned on. She doesn't like this. The point of having a networked system with a network printer was so that we didn't have to do this anymore (when we had USB connections).

Now I have downloaded the newest driver installer from Brother, version 2.2.0-1 and it does the same thing. It refuses to print on my wife's machine. Again, we are BOTH using Ubuntu Studio version 16.04. When I attempt to print anything, the print icon flashes for a brief second or two and then goes away. There is no error message on screen. Printing from an application does the same thing.

Please assist.

Thank You,

Geo

If I understand your problem, you have the Brother printer that is connected to the network but your wife can only access it through your computer when it is turned on? It sounds like you are sharing the printer with
your wife through your computer. Did you install the drivers on her computer? If not, that would be the problem. You need to do the installation on your wife's computer just as you did on yours. The printer should be set up as a network printer available to you both.
