Hi all,

Currently Ubuntu Budgie uses still GTK+ .. However on the Budgie website you can read that Budgie 11 has plans to switch towards QT5 ...
Will ubuntu budgie also switch towards QT5 or will it stay on GTK+ ?

Kind regards,
JP

Most certainly, Ubuntu Budgie will follow along with the latest Budgie, thus also switch to a desktop environment based on QT. How this will change the whole experience depends on how Budgie takes the change. They might move all desktop applications to QT based ones, or stick with the current GTK based applications, including control center.

I sent a time line question regarding this to the developers and the reply was that the transition may start with the 18.10/19.04 versions. There is a question about upgrade compatibility according to their blog.

Ubuntu Budgie is targeting a minor point release of the current
desktop v10.4 --> v10.4.1 with a whole lot of nice project developed
goodies to be incorporated.

The idea being to fully stabilise the desktop for a potential LTS release.

This will allow plenty of time to incorporate a budgie-desktop v11 in
approx 18.10 or 19.04 timescales
