First thing, I pre-format my new install HDDs all the same in Parted Magic; /: 41 GB ext4, /home 104GB ext4, /work 150GB+(based on the size of the HDD) ext4, SWAP 8GB.

16.04.3 installs fine and previous versions of all UBUNTU offerings worked fine. But starting with USTUDIO 16.04.4 the install stops after 'copying files' just when it starts 'Installing System', no movement of the progress bar. I see some activity on the HDD every once in a while but I have left it go for 45 minutes with nothing! At first I thought Ubuntu changed its HDD config to include a BIOS boot part so I added a 3Mb one once but it made no difference.

Any suggestions?

My system i3-2120 3.30 Ghz x2 (but System Monitor shows x4)
8 GB mem

I had a similar issue. Had to load new firmware onto the motherboard ... seemed to be part of the Intel CPU bug fixes. After that,16.04.4 loaded fine.

Also, you do need a FAT32 partition for UEFI if the system is booting via EFI.

If you don't hibernate, I think 8G for swap is more than desired. 4.1G is the size, IMHO.
