I am running an xfce4-session on 17.01, have installed Ibus and Chinese simplified language support.

Chinese shows up checked in the language support gui.

When I access ibus settings to choose a language to switch to from English I see Mandarin at the bottom of the list. However, this is greyed out and not selectable..

I did try to install Sogou pinyin on another machine but never achieved it. That input method is the best I have found for Windows and it does have support for Linux.

Can anyone point me to a route to be able to type Mandarin and switch to English?

Change language to Chinese, and back to English as suggested in penultimate post.
