View Full Version : [SOLVED] screen displays old window contents

Occasionally I get the contents of old windows or graphics on my screen. For example, I often use ncview, but the displayed stuff can come back to my screen long after I closed it.- Today I am also getting the results of a screen dump I did (with scrot). There is no sign of the applications (e.g. ncview) actually running, but these bits of graphics really mess up my desktop.

I'm running Xubuntu 17.10, with no special graphics drivers (and I know nothing of such things). Help appreciated...!

Did you try to disable the compositor from the window manager settings?

Thanks, I'll try that. I've been away from the office for some days so just now got back to the troublesome PC. It may take some time to see if things change, since the fault only showed itself now and then. I'll report back.

As an alternative compositor there is also compton. But first report back.

2 days without problem now. Looking good, so thanks again :-)
(I won't mark this as solved until I have had say 2 weeks without problems though. This was always a sporadic issue.)

Still seems ok :-)

Thanks again.
