On boot my system on boot says
17 packages can be updated
17 packages are security updates

Reference my other question where the updates fail on MySQL, how do I select which of the 17 package updates I want to install, bypassing the ones that fail
Thanks
Frank

If you post the command line and the relevant output, someone might be able to help with the failed pkg installs. Failing to fix those will likely lead to dependency failures soon and a system that cannot be maintained at all.

You might try using aptitude. I've never used it in the way you want.

From my other question
**

Ubuntu 16.04LTS running the most recent upgrade hung when reached MySQL. Can't get the exact error line because when I try to rerun the upgrade I get the error in subject line
Running sudo dkpg --configure -a hangs at

Setting up mysql-server-5.7 (5.7.21-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) ...

****

Since I can't get past the above line, I just want to install the rest of the updates for now and leave the older version of MySQL. It's good enough for now
