I'm following the full system encryption instructions at:

The only difference is that I want to use an SD card with embedded SD card reader on a Lenovo Thinkpad T440P to contain the encryption key thus eliminating the need for giving password on boot. It will not work. I think the SD card might not be recognised at that time.
I also added these instructions to the mix for trying to getting SD card to function on boot, but with no luck:

Still the system asks for password for opening the encryption.
There is an option to use USB key, but SD card would be a better option as it does not add to the dimensions of the laptop.
