Dear Foristi,
yesterdayI installed the Ubuntu Firmware Update on said contraption.
All went fine, until the requested reboot. Then the thing went hogwild. Fan on Warp 10, everything unionized: lots of noise, no work. Seems the thing was caught in a loop which almost burnt my Shleptop.
I formatted the drive and reinstalled Studio 17.10, repeated this four or five times, same result.
Now I reinstalled and barred it from updating.
Well, it at least works.

Does anyone have a faint idea what happened?

Really clueless...

Looks so. I hope I can spare other Dell users from this mess.
Cost me another bunch of gray hair...
