Hello Sirs;

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS , doesn't allow multiple desktops like other Linux distributions..

Could you make it so , you can have multiple desktops ???
And an even better idea , is to be able to have different icons on different desktops...

So you can have:
(1) a developer desktop , with all your dev and coding icons on it.
(2) a movie desktop , with all your video icons on it.
(3) a audio desktop with all your audio icons and mp3's on it.
(3) a office desktop , with all your office icons on it.
(4) a game desktop , with all your game icons on it.
etc...

All of the 'buntu flavours allow multiple workspaces. If pure Ubuntu Xenial, then the easiest way to manage workspaces is with Unity Tweak Tool:
sudo apt install unity-tweak-tool…launch Unity Tweak Tool→under Window Manager, choose Workspace Settings→your choice of Horizontal workspaces & Vertical workspaces.

Switching among them is done with <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<arrow-keys>

The one drawback is that the launcher is universal across all workspaces. If you want different launchers on each workspace, then: http://www.webupd8.org/2015/04/organize-your-unity-launcher-based-on.html

**CAUTION**

Note that LSwitcher has not been maintained since 2015. The PPA is therefore highly suspect. No one can help you with debugging the code, making it work properly or unravelling any damage that you do to your default launcher. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you try this out on an experimental machine or an Ubuntu session within a VM first.

Can't help you with icons. But with different launchers, why do you need to clutter up your desktop with icons?

@albert-redditt, a point of information. This is the second time that you've addressed the forum membership as though they were somehow responsible for the development of Ubuntu. We are not. This is a forum of volunteers, staff included, mostly ordinary users of Ubuntu. You are very welcome to ask for technical help here, but this is not the place to make suggestions about the design of Ubuntu or the recognised Ubuntu flavours.
