I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th gen that I want to install Ubuntu on. I travel almost full time and want to ensure my data is as secure as possible in case of loss or theft.

I would also like to be able to hibernate the laptop securely if possible. i plan on wiping Windows so won't be dual booting. I would also like to use 17.10.

Should i just use the installer's default for FDE or should I partition manually so I can get an encrypted swap partition (for hibernation). Perhaps just doing an encrypted /home is sufficient? I don't think I need to go so far as keeping /boot on a USB but maybe?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
