Hello,

This a window stating the following popped up, "Record your encryption passphrase"

but I have no idea what to do with it.

I clicked on run and another window popped up with "passphrase"

but I can't type anything there.

Does anyone know how to use this?

You don't say what you were trying to do when you got asked for a passphrase.

Passphrases are needed whenever you use some sort of encryption. It's normal that you don't get any feedback when you're typing it, not even those ****.

I suppose this window popped up just after installing Ubuntu. You have installed it allowing for your data to be encrypted. That is the passphrase (basically a password) that allows you to de-encrypt them if you need to do so (usually Ubuntu does that automatically but if the system fails, that passphrase will be the only thing that will let you access your data).
So after you run and the terminal window shows up, you just type your user password, it won't be shown because of security. You press Enter. A string of letters and numbers will be shown. That is your passphrase. Copy that, print it or save it in a safe place, in order to have it if you ever need it.
