I'm not getting any notifications from the Update Manager on Ubuntu MATE 16.04.3. Is there a fix?

I don't get them, either. I always, daily, do this:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

It does appear that other Ubuntu flavors also have this bug; I don't know when/if it'll be fixed. The update manager in MATE is called the Software Updater.
