I have been using both and I am torn on which to use for my "everyday" work laptop.
I like the functionality of XFCE but I like the "look" of GNOME.

I realize XFCE is great for older devices due to it being light-weight. I have a very high-end laptop. Is using XFCE wasting high-end resources?

I know Xfce is great with customization but can one make XFCE look VERY nice and modern?

Thanks for any insight.

You could also install extensions to get the missing features/functionality you need in Gnome3

I only use 3 extensions for my needs: Activitis confugiration - Dash to Dock - Topicons plus.

Isn't that totally subjective? Maybe if you could provide specific requirements, any of the many Xubuntu users here would be able to guide you or to tell you that what you want isn't available.

Fair enough - I know you love specifics; you make sure you tell me every time I dare to create a thread here asking for opinions.

Well, is there a way to use GNOME but get the options by just right-clicking the desktop that XFCE provides?

Sorry, I don't mean to yank your chain but in the first post I got the impression you wanted to make XFCE more modern because of

But it appears you want an XFCE feature to use in GNOME. I'm guessing you'll need some sort of extension as AI pointed out. Hopefully, something like what you want exists for your GNOME version.

Try https://extensions.gnome.org/ and I can't be more specific because I don't use GNOME whatever although I have several gtk applications.

Thanks man - I'll take a look at those.

Honestly, I LOVE XFCE, I am just wondering if it can be made to look a little newer/graphical.

Thanks for your response. Sorry for snapping back.

Activitis confugiration and Dash to Dock can be tweaked in Tweaks --> extensions
