I was asked to login to Ubuntu One. -- why!?

Fine.. logged in... attempt to install Atom again

I get this:

sigh... really? brand new xUbuntu 17.04 install.

You were asked to log in via Ubuntu One because Canonical, Ltd, has required the use of Ubuntu One SSO to log in. This was imposed on us and we can do nothing about it.

With regard to your issue:

Would you please past in code tags all commands you issued and the entirety of any messages returned?

To use code tags:

1. If you are using the "Reply to Thread" button - highlight text and click the # button in the text box header. Alternatively, click the # button first, place your cursor between the code tags and type or paste your text.

2. If using "Quick Reply" then type
