I'm returning to linux after about 12 years, so I'm a bit rusty and out of date ... I'm looking to make my Ubuntu Gnome desktop look exactly like the Kali 2017.1 Desktop. That's literally exactly how I'd ever want a desktop and I can't for the life of me make it happen. Anyone give me some help on this?

Start by running the same desktop environment. Last time I looked they were using 3+ different DEs, so you need to start with that.

It's a Gnome3 environment from what I can tell. Been fighting trying to get the gnome-shell-extensions installed so I can setup the application menu and stuff, but I can't get it to work. Both Mozzila and Firefox don't recognize the plug-in to install it from the extensions website even though both have the add-ons. So, still working on that fix .... Welcome back to Linux. lol
