Hey,

I was sitting at home today when it hit me... why has no-one offered a online Ubuntu/Linux course? So I got to work on a basic prototype of what an online ubuntu linux course would cover, right from the basic linux commands to some of more Ubuntu-specific stuff.

So, I was just wondering for interests sake, what would u reckon should be in an ubuntu course (should it be started by users completely new to the linux world), and would it be worthwhile?

If I can get enough people on board, i'm more than happy to start it up :)

You might be interested to know about this project:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Classroom

It's a bi-weekly IRC class. But those who missed classes need not worry. They will be posting the logs of the class, although it seems they haven't yet. I made and posted my own transcripts, available online in my blog (in my sig).

You could probably get some ideas there on what possible topics to cover.

I was more looking accross the lines of something like this :

http://pegasus.challengertafe.wa.edu.au/NewPegasus/cert3/system_admin2/system_admin2.htm

It's laid out and provides the files (if necessary for the classes).

There is also the Ubuntu LPI certification :-

I like the idea, but what I would really like to see, somehow, is an online/distance route to LPI/Ubuntu accreditation. Unfortunately, this would involve exams, and there, as far as I know, are very few, if any routes available for this.
However as for the OP, yes, why not. Curious though, would you be suggesting like a full range, beginner --> uber-geek, or are you really after the new starters to Linux?

Hi,
I'm a Dumb End User, and would probably sign up for a course like that. Some basic Linux stuff would be great..I'm learning painfully slowly, via Google and of course this forum, but it would be good to have stuff explained at a pre-school level. I'm only just getting a glimmer of understanding about makefiles, where to find config files, and gradually getting over my fear of forward-slashes and anything with usr/bins in it. Basic stuff like that. So anything like that, especially with a view to more Ubuntu-specific stuff further down the track would be pretty good. Of course I can find most of what I want on Google, but I'm only reciting it parrot-fashion and not really learning the whys of everything I'm doing. Plus my dial-up is so slow, about 21kbs right now, that I often forget what I'm googling for while I'm waiting for the page to load...oh gods the pain.....](*,)
