I switched my 17.04 installation (originally 16.04) from Unity to Gnome - for obvious reasons. The user interface is really slow, as if the framerate was below 10 or so. The cpu is Intel® Core™ i5-5300U CPU @ 2.30GHz × 4, and the gpu Intel® HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2), which should be fast enough for this purpose. Is there something wrong or is Gnome just this slow? I could swear it is faster after login, but slows down at some point.

again?

Have the same experience after switching to Ubuntu-Gnome. Desktop feels like it's running in molasses.
Also consumes a lot of ram.
Still have 16.04 Ubuntu/Unity installed which is noticeably more responsive.
The application overlay takes a couple of seconds to initiate.
There is an impatience extension to speed up the overlay animation, but I still experience
noticeable lag before the animation begins.
Everything just feels less responsive.

So, does anyone with clean install of Gnome have these problems?
