Hello world,

I have been a regular user of Ubuntu since the old good days of Lucid Lynx. Currently, due to the change from Unity to Gnome, Im feeling hopeless so I decided to give it a try to Ubuntu Mate.

So far It works good however the look and feel doesnt feel right. Maybe this is something silly but is there any guide or theme or anything that can help me to bring the Ubuntu colors, icons back? I have researching for some time and could not find anything that fit under my needs. I want to get rid of the green color from the all UI.

Last but not least, if this is something that doesnt exist, can anyone point me on the right direction to study how to make a theme and share it with the community.

Thank you and have a nice day.

You can select a theme in the Look and Feel window, and click the Customize button to select different icons. The orange ones should be there as well.

The highlight color was a tricky one, but I've found that gtk-theme-config from the repositories is an easy workaround. It pulls in some xfce dependencies, but nothing major really.

And if you liked the old gnome-2 but can't quite get mate to look and feel the same as that did, you may find Xubuntu is now even more to your liking than Ubuntu-mate.

XFCE-4.12 is a lot more configurable than some of the previous versions were and can now be made to look like and behave very like almost any other DE version of *ubuntu.

Still another option is fallback or gnome-panel which I have used since they converted to Unity.
It gives the same look as the old versions of Ubuntu. And has updated to gnome3, the similar flashback was based on gnome2.
There are some changes, but every version of software has some changes & you learn to live with them.

The differences to the MATE project is that GNOME Flashback uses GTK+ 3 and tries to follow the current GNOME development by integrating recent changes of the GNOME libraries.

Ubuntu GNOME offers a Classic session but it's not at all easily customized and runs on top of the mutter window manager which is much more resource hungry than either MATE's Marco WM or Flashbacks Metacity WM.
IMHO if someone knows they prefer the old school GNOME 2 experience they're better off just installing Ubuntu MATE because it acts and works just like GNOME 2 and includes a nifty MATE Tweak tool.
