I've used Ub 14.04 and then 16.04 over the last couple yrs on a desktop machine.

I usually use "suspend" with the password required on wake-up when I'm done with the machine.

Varying over time from occasionally to frequently, on wake-up, the password dialog box is inert - it won't allow the password to be entered and the o/s to open up. I have to power down and and go through a new boot-up.

I've tried using ctrl-alt-Fxx variations and log ins from the command line with no success.

1) is Ub suspend associated with Unity? Would switching to Gnome desktop be likely to cure the wake-up inert pw box problems I've had?

2) does anybody know how to fix this, or a reliable work around?

Thanks

I believe I have heard of this before but can not quickly find anything about it, but I think it may be possible to use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to a tty command line then Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back to the GUI and keyboard input them might work.

I am, however, just a bit unsure whether or not the first move to tty will work in that situation when the password is being requested; it may not.
