So, I downloaded and installed Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 on a spare HDD with /home and volume encryption (and LVM) enabled, and the installation went well. However, when I logged in, the screen just goes blank; first the default grey background, then white and later on white-noise multi-coloured..but it just won't go forward from there. I can't move my mouse but numlock on keyboard seems to respond.

I wonder if this is to do with my GPU drivers...I've got a 980 ti. I had previously installed Ubuntu 17.04 with Unity and it worked fine out of the box...so perhaps, GNOME isn't playing well with it?? My CPU doesn't have an IGP otherwise, I would unplug the 980 ti and try it.

I am a complete beginner here so I do apologise if this is a common problem that I'm not aware of. Please, can one of you help me?

Thank you.
