Whisker Menu ignoring generic name setting since upgrade to 17.04

Since upgrading to Xubuntu 17.04 the Whisker Menu stopped displaying non-generic application names despite the "Show generic application names" option being unchecked in properties.

Anyone else had this problem and found a work around? I really dislike using generic names.
