It will suffice to say, that about the time that the cat-and-mouse game of liberating non-FOSS operating systems became more trouble than it was worth, my son moved out on his own and took the PC that he and his elementary-school-aged sister shared. I built a new used system with/for her, and asked her if we should spend the money on a non-FOSS OS or if she wanted to try Ubuntu (Dapper). She chose Ubuntu. She has since successfully navigated her way through Art School and University on FOSS OSes and applications. She seems to live a full and rewarding life, a gainfully and happily employed contributor to society.
