Having difficulty with Ubuntu installer for the first time as seen in the screen shot gparted sees the drive , but I'm getting a blank page with no options in the installer. Attempting install on the unallocated space after shrinking the volume from the Windows side. The live session runs great. The hardware is new/old stock installed in December with standard Bios.

Take a look at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1958409 -- seems to be a similar problem with Win 7.

Was drive ever RAID, or used with Windows 8 or 10 as gpt partitioned?

Post these.
sudo parted -l
sudo fdisk -lu

The drive came from my father so it's possible it was used with RAID. Will post when boot from the live session again.

Confirmed the drive was used in a RAID setup.

Answer located on an old thread. Deleted RAID meta data which was not removed when installing Win 7 with the following command.Use only if not currently running RAID.

sudo dmraid -E -r /dev/sda
