Hello,

I'd like to install ubuntu 16.04 64-bit as the sole OS on my laptop which uses UEFI. I'd rather not do the installation using the legacy BIOS mode. Can someone please tell me how to do this?? When my office technical support tried to do this, the laptop did not detect any bootable device after installation and also, there were some error messages during installation. I am also a bit confused about the EFI partition and how to set it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start by reading through https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI very thoroughly, and if it does not make sense come back here with specific questions.

What is the laptop make?
There are some machines which make it hard to install and use anything except Windows, but as far as I'm aware, there is always a way around this.
Some of the difficulties I speak of are listed in some detail in the long thread at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2147295 which may help you sort out the problem in your case, but again, if that still does not help come back again with further questions.

Also posting the information report from boot-repair (just the report, don't try any fixes yet), will give us the current state of your machine, since you may not know exactly what the tech did.
