Tearing with Nvidia Optimus Fixed?

I've been looking for a fix for this for over a year now. I keep checking on the Nvidia devtalk forums and just recently read that it could be another 6 months until this is fixed. Is this true? Or is there a fix for 16.04 now?

As far as 16.04 it would be at least another 6 months if xserver-1.19 shows up in 17.04 & if it actually does eliminate tearing in Ubuntu
