Hi all,

I have a new LG 25UM58-P 21:9 (2560x1080) monitor. Laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad y460 (specs) (http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/notebooks/ideapad/y-series/IdeaPad%20Y460.pdf) Uses an old AMD HD5650m GPU, so using the open source radeon drivers. The UW resolution does not show up in Screen Displays by default, so I'm trying to add it. I've tried a few things that have seemingly no effect so far, except this guide (https://samuelmartin.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/enabling-resolutions-in-ubuntu-12-04-lubuntu-12-04/). However, it's adding the new resolution to my built-in display, and I can't figure out how to switch it over (most attempts leave me stuck in boot after file check and have to rm the .conf)

Please see attachment for a screenshot of Screen Display.

Really sorry if this is a very commonly posted question, I really couldn't find a solution that worked for me (most of them had seemingly no effect at all :()

Hi all, an update to the previous situation:

Due to suggestions from another thread for my ancient hardware, I have switched to Xubuntu 16.04 (from Ubuntu 16.10). Still using the default radeon driver. I have since attempted another guide from this thread (https://askubuntu.com/questions/19954/how-to-set-the-monitor-to-its-native-resolution-which-is-not-listed-in-the-resol). All goes well except for the last step - selecting the 2560x1080 mode in Display settings. The monitor goes dark and displays "No signal".

Shouldn't be a cable problem since I've tried both the stock cable that came with the monitor, and an aftermarket Belkin cable (no idea what specs).

Does anyone know what might be causing this?
