I'm going to give Kubuntu a try, but I really don't like the plasma look.
I liked, instead, so much it's old look, with big, fat icons looking like cartoon, like the standard theme of the old Slax distribution, or like a japanese super deformed.

How can I customize it?

Thank you very much, of course :)

If you are really feeling that you need the old look go to https://wiki.trinitydesktop.org/UbuntuInstall#For_Xenial_.28Ubuntu_16.04_LTS.29 where you will find a version of Ubuntu with a fork of the KDE 3.5 DE that you can install to your current OS.

I used to love KDE 3.5, but I tried it recently in VirtualBox and realised that I now can't stand it, but it's "horses for courses" as we say in UK, ie, everybody is different.

I used an iso image file from http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/cdimages/ubuntu to create my VM of this, but have since removed it.
