I have really made a mess.
This started with somehow setting Gnome to root, not my user account.
In trying to figure out how to find the permissions for Gnome, then change them I managed to do something to squirrel the other desktop managers in the log in options / password screen.
Now none of them will take my password.
Now I have relearned how to boot into recovery mode.
But I do not have a clue what to do from here.
I do not want to create any more problems.
Could somebody help me with some step x step instructions how to clean up this mess?
I need Gnome back.
Thanks.
