Hello, I made a post to help figure out what pc to get about a week ago and picked one up for pretty cheap. Dell optiplex 755, 2x 160gb sata hard drives. Also bought a Ubuntu 16.04 install CD from eBay 32bit version.

Question: never messed with a new hard drive before or partitioning. I plan on only using Ubuntu on 1 drive 160gb. (Dont have a cable for 2nd one yet) The drive was in with the eBay sale and I do not have another pc. When installing via the CD and going through 16.04 setup will i have to set a partition & does it offer reformatting during install?

The installer will give you an option to install using the whole disk.
(It is usually the top option)
Unless you plan on adding multiple operating system it is as easy as that.

If you have 2GB or more of RAM, the 64 bit version may be better.
Few full systems in last 10 years are 32 bit, some tablets may be.

You can download the 64 bit version for free.
Lots of info on USB boot for installing

If older system, gpu may not have enough horsepower to run full Ubuntu with Unity.
Lighter weight versions/flavors may then be better.

Yeah was not sure how the 64 would run, figured I would try 32 then since I'll have a pc I can do the 64 :).

Have 4gb ram dual core processor. Heard Ubuntu with unity does pretty good on this pc. Future plan is to upgrade to 8gb ram & quad core though :)
