When I do apt-get update, it hangs when connecting to 01.archive.ubuntu.com

When I try it in a web browser, I notice what appears to be an infinite recursion structure, in the form of
http://01.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ubuntu/ ...

that "ubuntu/" directory is shown with today's date (12/28/2016) so I presume this just happened recently.

The recursive behavior has always been like that. Or at least for several years now...
It's irrelevant ( but rather comical, imo), since once the system goes to the first one it then moves on to the directory that holds the packages (dists or pool?; I forget)

Try updating again after a while.
Might just be a temporary problem.
(Again maybe try again later, if not working the first time)
That happens sometimes.

Thanks for the reply! Now looks like my problem was a local configuration change. I had recently replaced my very old router, and now it seems there is some problem with using IP6. I turned off IP6 on my Ubuntu box, and then updates worked.
