Hi, i have xubuntu installed on my computer for the last year and I was trying to connect my mouse and key board with another computer using Synergy and after a couple days my computer starting acting funny like a lot the my apps and browser would start to freeze. and yesterday my computer just reset itself and wiped everything out on my hard drive and put the whole installation back to its original state. and now the only thing left on my hard drive is the OS . is there any way that i can recover my downloads folder?

Do you mean you reinstalled the OS? It seems unlikely that the Ubuntu OS would reinstall or as you say reset and wipe a partition on it's own. Can you show a jpg of GParted for all drives or the output of the command
sudo fdisk -l

When you say that the only thing left on your hard drive is an OS partition, is that Xubuntu, or the "OS" partition containing Windows on a Dell computer because something triggered "Recovery"?
