my monitor (at my server hardware PC) is connected thru VGA and Ubuntu did not recognize the correct resolutions this monitor can handle (which is 1280*1024).
So I tried to set in manually with xrandr (I added a mode and tried to set this mode).
However, I get the error message "Failed to change the screen configuration"
After adding the new mode with xrandr, I can select 1280*1024 in the graphical settings for the display, however, when I click "apply" it says this configuration is not within the range of this monitor.
Since this is not true, how can I change this maximum allowed resolution for my monitor or force it in another way to set 1280*1024?
