View Full Version : [ubuntu] Chromebook Dual Boot

December 16th, 2016, 01:30 AM

My significant other uses a Chromebook for most of her daily tasks, and I suggested to her that we could dual-boot the Chrome OS and some distro of Linux to give her more versatility. The Chromebook is an HP with 16 gigs of memory and 2 gigs of RAM. My problem when trying to boot off of a flashdrive is that there doesn't seem to be any sort of legacy BIOS to do this through. I have tried enabling it in developer mode, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums, dilbert30720

I have never worked with a Chromebook. The following links are from word of mouth and from other threads on this forum and elsewhere.

For crouton: http://www.howtogeek.com/162120/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-on-your-chromebook-with-crouton/

For complete replacement of ChromeOS (not dual boot), an old(ish) tutorial dealing with Trusty. May possibly work on Xenial: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2220912

I believe that ChrUbuntu has not been maintained for some years now and therefore would not recommend it.

I lack the knowledge or experience with Chromebooks to help you with further details.
