I just bought two new HP 17 laptops, and I've loaded Ubuntu 16.10. Knowing that Intel offers good linux support, I substituted Intel AC 7265 wifi cards for the built-in Realtek RTL8188EE cards. Unfortunately, wifi has never worked consistently.
I've loaded the latest drivers as follows:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/OpenELEC/iwlwifi-firmware.git
cd iwlwifi-firmware/firmware
sudo cp iwlwifi-7265* /lib/firmware
I've also confirmed that the updated drivers are in /lib/firmware.
I ran the wireless info script. Here is the output:

It looks likes the wifi is soft-blocked, but I don't know what that means. Based on other forum articles, I ran the following:

I've loaded the latest drivers as follows:

git clone https://github.com/OpenELEC/iwlwifi-firmware.git
cd iwlwifi-firmware/firmware
sudo cp iwlwifi-7265* /lib/firmware
I've also confirmed that the updated drivers are in /lib/firmware.

It looks likes the wifi is soft-blocked, but I don't know what that means. Based on other forum articles, I ran the following:
